Grand-Sire Landgraf I has been labeled by many "Stallion of the Century." His genes are securely anchored in the breed of the modern sport horse. His offspring have won just under seven million dollars mainly in show jumping and is still growing. Landgraf I produced more than 80 approved sons and more than 100 premium mares in Germany alone. When you visit Elmshorn, Germany, these days, and you stop at the century-old "Riding and Driving School", then you are where the heart of the Holsteiner Horse Breeding is beating. And there you meet that characteristic shape of Landgraf I in front of the complex, the symbol of the modern Holsteiner Sport Horse and performance sire.
Born in 1966, Landgraf I belonged to the first vintage of his sire, Ladykiller XX, who produced another hero one year later in Lord, another of the most influential stallions in Holstein. Ladykiller XX was a very popular Thoroughbred stallion, born in England, and a descendant of the very famous stallion line of Phalaris - Fairway - Blue Peter - Sailing Light, combining with Hyperion. His dam also carried Phalaris-blood, as well as Son-in-Law. Landgraf had a very good temperament which he passes on dominantly, together with excellent movement.
At least 340 broodmares by Landgraf I are registered in the Holsteiner stud book, 260 of these are in the Head Stud Book, 70 have been awarded the State Premium, and a considerable number have been champion mares at shows. Landgraf I was a legend already during his lifetime. His genes are securely anchored in the breed of the modern sporthorse.
Ladykiller xx - Ladykiller xx embodies the powerful type of the thoroughbred. He was a strikingly handsome stallion with pronounced masculine attributes. He had an excellent mastery of the three basic gaits and was imbued with the very best character and temperament values. Of the enormous number of thoroughbreds that were applied in breeding in the 1960's and the early 1970's, he turned out to be the best by far. He clearly transmitted himself, his marked type, the magnificent head, correct and powerful foundation and excellent jumping ability in regard to capacity, manner of jumping, leg technique and above all spirit.
Ladykiller xx produced numerous top jumpers and event horses and passed on his good disposition to many first class broodmares and approved stallions (Landgraf I and Lord). Ladykiller was a clearly prepotent sire who passed on his beautiful head, good bone, and strong legs. He was very talented over fences (lots of heart, ability, tight with front ends and good bascule). With regard to his impact on the breed, he is Holstein's most important Thoroughbred sire.
Through his dam line Limited Edition also brings highly sought after blood, his dam sire is Zeus. Zeus progeny have won over 5 million DM to date. Some of Zeus' highly successful show jumping progeny: Lonesome Dove, Czar, Zymbal I, Zymbal II, Swift, Beach Boy, Zenit, Zyklon, Zarino 4, Zunkunft, Zaandam, Zapateado, Zyklus, Zeno, Zandor Z, Marlon [VDL], and Zaster 5 make Zeus a paramount producer of show jumpers.
